Last Friday night, hubs and I enjoyed a nice dinner at the new Vintage Bar & Bistro in Tallahassee. For those of you keeping score at home, we have very few truly new places here; Vintage used to be Cafe Cabernet. It has a whole new menu and new vibe, both of which impressed us.
We were seated right away when we arrived, and had our section almost to ourselves (it was an early date). Our server was helpful and knowledgeable about the wine list and the details about menu items. We each had a glass of wine and started off with the flatbread of the day, which had braised short rib meat, asparagus and other goodies on it. Tasty, as were the wines.
For dinner I had the grouper:
GULF GROUPER con maiz
warm corn salsa, garlic sautéed spinach
& cumin tomato béchamel
and hubs had the Southern burger - he couldn't pass up the chance to have the pimento cheese - olive - pepper jam combo which was just how the server described it: a great combination of smooth, salty and sweet.
SOUTHERN BURGER
with pimento cheese, green olives, 3 pepper marmalade
We both wanted to try the blue cheese grits, so we ordered them as a side. Even though white on white in a white bowl doesn't make the best photo, here it is:
BLUE CHEESE GRITS
My fish and hubs' burger were both prepared just right. The warm corn salsa was really good - a little sweet but with just enough heat to keep to keep it tangy too. As the evening progressed, the restaurant got busier (especially the outside patio which our server was also covering) so it took awhile to get our check, but we weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal. We'll definitely be back - there are other items on the menu (see it here) that we want to try... and I really enjoyed the background music (doesn't happen often in restaurants).
