Two Days in Tallahassee

What would you do if you had less than 48 hours in Tallahassee? What would you see and do? We had the chance to answer this question in real life in November when Dawn spent two days with us. She arrived on a Friday morning and left early Sunday. Here are the highlights/our recommendations for not-to-miss fun:

1. Make the most of the art that's all around us. Like in the airport!

2. Say hello to the Gulf 3. eat some local food

Srsly Chocolate, locally grown radishes plus fruit, crackers and water

4. take a selfie

5. lunch (or any meal) at Sage 

We both had the lunch special: Marinated beef tacos with avocado butter,
radish, cabbage, cilantro sprouts - ridiculously good

6. dinner at Kool Beanz with friends (Jenn, Britain and ran into Paula!)

7. visit Tom Brown Park (yes we took Dawn out to play disc golf!)

8. relax! we went for massages at the fabulous neighborhood Sage Spa

9. experience a local tradition 10. support some good causes and

11. have a great time with friends.

Brewfest Tallahassee Recap

I had a great time Saturday, October 30th at Brewfest. (see my preview post about the event here.) It was a gorgeous evening, cooler out but not cold. As usual we saw lots of friends.

Two of the new beers I tried that I liked the most were Hell Hath No Fury from Bell's and Jefferson Stout from Lazy Magnolia. The former is a sort of a hybrid between a Belgium Dubbel and a stout, with a nice complex balanced flavor. Jefferson Stout is brewed with sweet potatoes! I wish it was available locally. We really enjoyed chatting with the guy from Lazy Magnolia. They continue to be the only brewery in Mississippi.

I came home with lots of goodies (perks of being a VIP) including bottle openers, reusable grocery bags, t-shirts and glasses:

 All in all, a great evening for some great causes!

Brewfest Tallahassee!

Saturday October 30, I will be supporting the Tallahassee Sunrise Rotary by attending Brewfest Tallahassee. This is a great local charity event held each year at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum. Proceeds benefit Rotary projects (North Florida Rotary Youth Camp and World-wide Polio Eradication) and local organizations HOPE (Housing Opportunities and Personal Empowerment) Community and Leon County Relay for Life.

Last year was my first time attending and I had a great time, saw lots of friends, ate a lot, and tasted all types of beers. It's especially fun to vote for your favorites. I buy the VIP tickets for the early entry, the great food, and the easy access to nice clean bathrooms.
