Stop this night and day with me

Clearing out our storage area "in the back" of our house (aka on top of our very odd unusable hot tub in the master bathroom) I can across an old suitcase full of old trophies, love notes, and various paraphernalia. In amongst all of it was this lovely bit of poetry from Walt Whitman:

Stop this night and day with me and you shall possess the origin of all poems,
You shall possess the good of the earth and sun (there are millions of suns left),
You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books.
You shall not look through my eyes either, not take things from me, (but) you shall listen to all sides and filter them from yourself.
